Brick Lane Market

One of the best things to do in London on a Sunday is head to the Brick Lane Market. Specifically, the Sunday UpMarket in the former Old Truman Brewery.

Sharing the space with the Vintage Market, the Sunday Upmarket is our favorite food market in London.

A collaboration of five different markets make up what is known as the Brick Lane Market.

  • The Sunday UpMarket
  • Vintage Market
  • Backyard Market
  • Tea Rooms
  • Boiler House

Each market sells very different things and has it’s own vibe.

The one thing they have in common is being packed on a Sunday.

Traditionally only open on Sunday. However, the Sunday UpMarket is now open on Saturday’s 11 am – 5:30 pm, and Sunday’s 10 am – 6 pm.

Other markets and stores in the area have varying opening days and hours.

Street art surrounds the the former Old Truman Brewery, giving the area a bohemian feel.

Check out Ely’s Yard on Drays Walk for some interesting street art. Grab some food at one of the food trucks or head into the Sunday UpMarket for a more cultural cuisine.

Eating at the Sunday UpMarket

Whether you are looking for something sweet or savory, the UpMarket has you covered.

There is a whole world of food to try. From the exotic, such as Ethiopian, Moroccan and Caribbean, to the staples of Chinese, Indian and European dishes.

Not only is there a fantastic selection of authentic and fresh foods, its also one of the cheapest markets to grab a bite to eat.

The catch is limited seating. You will find people sitting on the stairs, the floor, anywhere they can find a spot to eat. Sometimes, near the bathrooms is a large empty hall if you want to escape from the crowds.

If you saved room, don’t forget to grab some dessert.

Head to the basement of the Old Truman Brewery for the Vintage Market.

There’s something for every generation here, whether it’s a leather or jean jacket or even fur coats. Or, maybe it’s cowboy boots you are after. They have it all, from posters to vinyl records.
